⏰ A 20-hour course structure for 10 days
Day #1
- Introduction: Introduction to data, data analytics in health and safety, sources of HSE data, examples of dirty HSE datasets, and Introduction to Power BI and Power BI Desktop—2 Hours
Day #2
- The Heart of Data Analysis: Introduction to Power Query, the process of ETL (extract, transform, and load), and data modeling (star schema, snowflake schema, fact & dimension tables) with practice HSE datasets —2 Hours
Day #3
- Working with Data: Understanding data types in Power Query and how to set correct data types (date, number, text, decimals, percentage) and how to change date format with practice HSE datasets —2 Hours
Day #4
- Leveling up Data Cleaning: Practise different cases of data cleaning (standardize dates, clean spelling errors, remove null, replace values, remove duplicate, etc.) with practice HSE datasets —2 Hours
Day #5
- Leveling up Data Transformation: Practise different cases of data transformation (appending queries, merging queries, transposing tables, unpivoting columns, etc.) with HSE datasets —2 Hours
Day #6
- Leveling up Data Transformation: Practise different cases of data transformation (creating duplicates of queries, referencing queries) and data modeling (star schema & snowflake schema) with HSE datasets —2 Hours
Day #7
- Understanding DAX: Introduction to DAX functions and DAX measures for HSE Key Performance Indicators and different cases of application with HSE datasets —2 Hours
Day #8
- Leveling up Data Visualization: Data visualization with Power BI, creating visuals, page navigation, bookmarks, slicers and filters, dashboard designs and wireframing with PowerPoint—2 Hours
Day #9
- Bringing it all Together: Introduction to Power BI Service, how to publish reports, how to embed reports to SharePoint, how to embed reports in Microsoft Teams and using AI for Data Analytics (ChatGPT)—2 Hours
Day #10
- Becoming a Data Pro: Capstone Project—Creating a Dashboard using the relevant DAX measures in Power BI for the capstone project in HSE—2 Hours

- HSE Professional or Enthusiast
- Windows Laptop
- Additional Screen (at least Phone)
- Power BI Desktop
- Work Email to Access Power BI service
- Microsoft Teams (option to join via browser)
NB: A daily video recording (approx. 500 MB) file is shared after each session.
